Impossible? Doesn’t exist.
Eddie the Eagle – anything is possible.

Who doesn’t know the legendary movie “Eddie the Eagle”?

The somewhat clumsy Brit Michael “Eddie” Edwards has dreamed of taking part in the Olympic Games since childhood, but fails in every single sport. When he learns that the discipline of ski jumping is hardly practiced in England, he tries to teach himself the sport. But then he met Bronson Peary, who took him under his wing and prepared him for the 1988 Olympic Games in Calgary – where he became a crowd favorite as “Eddie the Eagle”.

The story of Bionic Reading® inventor and founder, Renato Casutt, was almost the same – except for the small, subtle difference that his story has not (yet) been made into a movie ;).

The idea was born in 2009, during his studies to become a typographic designer at the “Zurich School of Design”. The students were allowed to create a book design for the Swiss bestselling author Pedro Lenz. The author of the book did not write his texts in German, but in a dialect of the Swiss language, which made it almost impossible for Renato to read the text. However, when the author said something in his dialect, Renato was able to pick up every single word and understand the context immediately. In other words, his brain had no problem at all absorbing the text through his ears – so the problem lay in absorbing the text through his eyes.

Even though Renato had heard this dialect form several times before, but had never read it, so his brain had no vocabulary for this dialect form and was therefore unable to make a comparison. And that’s exactly what he had to change. Renato has realized that he actually only needs individual fragments of the words to tell his brain: “Hey, you don’t know exactly this word, but you know one that is very similar. So just use this similar word that has the same meaning and is already in your vocabulary.”

Renato then converted the text manually, word for word, into Bionic Reading®, translating it for his brain, so to speak, and was suddenly able to read and understand the entire text. His classmates felt the same and were even able to read faster with this variant. Renato was very busy at that time and was still working in his parents’ company, which is a business in the printing industry. It was mainly due to a lack of time that he stowed the idea of Bionic Reading® away in a drawer. Another reason for stowing the idea in a drawer was that the technical possibilities for gaining a foothold in the technical world as a “typo person” were not yet so mature at the time.

Conclusion of this story
Hold on to your ideas and visions. Even if they seem impossible at the moment. It often takes a lot of time and patience to realize them. But in the end, you can do it too.

A reading method that revolutionizes reading.

Bionic Reading® allows your eyes to “skip” over words and texts, similar to a surfboard that only glides on the tip of a wave. So, are you still reading or are you already surfing?

The story about Bionic Reading®

January 17, 2024

Bionic Reading® started with this pen.

Bionic Reading® started with this pen.

Who’s behind it?
Renato Casutt, a typographic designer from Chur (Switzerland), is the founder and inventor of Bionic Reading®. With his unique reading method, he wants to enable us to read with focus in these hectic times.

How did Bionic Reading® come about?
Renato Casutt came up with the idea for Bionic Reading® back in 2009, when he was studying typographic design at the Zurich School of Design. During the study, a Swiss best-selling author contacted the school management and wanted the students to create a design for his book. The book was written in the spoken dialect from the author, which was different from the one Renato Casutt spoke. The dialect was similar but still foreign, which made it difficult for Casutt to read. His brain didn’t know these visual words on paper yet and therefore couldn’t match them with his existing vocabulary. Then he noticed that he only needed single fragments of the different words to tell his brain “Hey, you know a very similar word in your dialect, so take this one, as it has the same meaning”. This is how Bionic Reading® was born. After Renato Casutt first put the concept aside, he started the project in spring 2016 and has now been working full-time for the reading method since 2020.

How does the reading method work?
By using typographic features, readers not only glide through texts more quickly, they also absorb content better and with more focus. Readers perceive the highlighted first letters of a word and the brain completes it by falling back on the existing vocabulary. Similar to words which are, despite twisted letters, still understandable because the brain automatically corrects the order of the letters.

According to Casutt, Bionic Reading®, in contrast, additionally supports the eyes. “It transmits to the brain to focus only on single areas of the word – a reduction to the bare essentials, so to speak, which accelerates up the reading process” Casutt says. In general, there are fewer regressions during reading, because you are automatically forwarded and the sentences are composed according to their meaning.

How is the reading method applied?
With a single registration, all six Bionic Reading® Apps (as of January 2024) can be accessed. It doesn’t matter if you use Apple, Google, Windows or a browser. The devices used are also irrelevant – the apps work on smartphones, tablets, notebooks, laptops, desktop computers, and on web. And because no one likes to buy a “pig in a poke”, there is of course a free version called “Discover”, which requires no registration.

Has the reading method received any notable awards yet?
Bionic Reading® has already received two international awards. It won Gold in both the “Excellence in Business to Business” category for “Information Technologies and Functional Software” and the “Apps” category for “Excellent Communications Design” at the German Design Award 2023 and German Innovation Award 2023. So Bionic Reading® has twice received the highest award, which is given to participants.

Is the reading method already widely distributed, and who is it intended for?
Bionic Reading® has already gone viral several times and is being searched, liked, shared and commented on by many people worldwide on social media channels.

The previous insights for the use of Bionic Reading® cannot be attributed to any specific groups of individuals. This is probably due to the fact that the reading method can be individually adapted to the needs of each reader. Young or old, working or studying, business or private, with or without reading difficulties – Bionic Reading® is very well received worldwide, and more importantly, the reading method helps an extremely large number of people.

Users have commented on our reading method as “Life Changer”, “Game Changer” and “Absolutely Mind Blowing”, says Renato Casutt.

According to Casutt, he certainly appreciates the awards and media attention, but it’s basically statements like the ones above that motivate him to passionately develop his reading method. “Hearing respectively reading stories from people in which Bionic Reading® is described as a game or life changer for them is probably hard to top and really touches me every time anew”.

Is Bionic Reading® internationally protected?
The intellectual property of Bionic Reading® is based on patent, trademark and copyright laws. Bionic Reading AG is an authorized partner of BRCG Casutt GmbH and develops, distributes and promotes the Bionic Reading® products. BRCG Casutt GmbH, Masanserstrasse 194, CH-7000 Chur, Switzerland, is the exclusive rights holder of Bionic Reading®.

Who likes to buy a “pig in a poke”?

Buying a “pig in a poke” – not with Bionic Reading®.

How often do we have to buy apps only to realize after the purchase that we had imagined everything quite differently and that we basically (in the worst case) can do nothing at all with the purchased app?

In contrast to the traders of the past, we don’t stuff a worthless cat into a bag instead of the designated piglet, rabbit or hare to cheat inattentive customers. Quite the opposite – Bionic Reading® even allows you to open the bag to check whether you are satisfied with the content or not. Everyone may buy, but no one has to.

That’s exactly why we want to make it possible for you to test our reading method for free. Because you are important to us.

C like Chur.

The “home” of Bionic Reading®.

From A to Z

November 2, 2023

C like Chur

The oldest city in Switzerland.

Why our article today is about Chur?

It’s simple – Chur is not only the home of founder and inventor Renato Casutt, it’s also the home of Bionic Reading®. It’s obvious that in a digital company rarely all team members have the same “home”, so we naturally don’t work all in Chur. But fortunately, there are now more than enough ways to look each other in the eye while communicating.

Chur, besides being the oldest city in Switzerland, is also the capital of the canton of Graubünden. Very interesting for winter and summer fans, Chur is located at 593 meters above sea level and has an area of 54.24 km². The official languages include German, Romansh and Italian. The High Alemannic dialect spoken in Chur is called “Churerdeutsch”.

Chur is known throughout Switzerland for its high density of restaurants and bars. Due to the central function, the offer is pronounced and varied compared to similarly large cities. Almost unique is the concentration of bars and discos on a single exit mile. It is not everyone’s thing, but during an exploration of the exit mile, a glass of the famous “Bündner Röteli” should actually not be missed. It is a traditional liqueur made from cherries and spices. The name “Bündner” indicates the origin from the canton of Graubünden. There are many other culinary “Bündner specialties” that you have to try during a visit. Whether barley soup, Capuns, Bündnerfleisch or nut cake – there is certainly something for your taste.

Conclusion of this story
Chur is definitely worth avisit (unfortunately, many people only know the city from driving by) and the people of Chur will welcome you warmly at any time.

B like brothers.

Who needs superheroes when you have big brothers.

From A to Z

B like brothers

Siblings are a piece of childhood that remains forever.

So different and yet so alike are the three Casutt brothers. We are pleased to introduce them.

Gian-Andri (see the handsome man on the right side of the picture)
Unfortunately, we had to leave the oldest of the gang to the city of Zurich. He lives there with his family and works as Head of Communication and Public Affairs at Board of the Swiss Federal Instituts of Technology ETH Board. He may be the oldest, but according to his two younger brothers, he is certainly not the wisest. Whether the two “little ones” are right in this respect remains to be seen.
“Gianni” is a very pleasant and open guy who, despite his job as head of communications, is (fortunately) not too much of a chatterbox.

Claudio (see the handsome man on the left of the picture)
The somewhat lively and thoroughly funny curly-haired Claudio has ensured that the family business Casutt Druck & Werbetechnik AG continues. The company was founded by his grandfather back in 1977 and fortunately still exists due to Claudio and his motto “future needs origin”.
“Claude” has remained faithful to the alpine town of Chur, which will not change in 99% of cases in the future, because he simply feels like a million bucks here with his family.

Renato (see the handsome man in the arms of his brothers)
You may already know a thing or two about Renato. He was also involved in the continuation of the company Casutt Druck & Werbetechnik AG for 16 years. This until his “baby” Bionic Reading® was born. Renato is the founder and inventor of Bionic Reading® and he also lives (with intermediate detours to Zurich and Basel) with his wife in Chur.
“RC” or because of his special glasses also sometimes called “Harry Potter”, can not do magic (according to his statement), but his reading method Bionic Reading® makes many read as if by magic.

Conclusion of this story
Just like you, all three boys are unique. No matter how different the Casutt brothers are, they are definitely all one thing – they are open, funny, courteous, have their hearts in the right place and are real go-getter guys.

A like Apple.

An Apple a day keeps the doctor away.

From A to Z

September 13, 2023

A like Apple.

Bionic Reading® works with Apple.
And that will not change.

At Bionic Reading®, we live this motto not only privately, but also professionally.

Since the foundation of Bionic Reading® we have been working with Apple devices. And not for nothing. We are very satisfied with them. And as you can see in the picture, one of our used Apple devices for creating our designs has been doing a great job for about eight years. And the iMac still works like on the first day, even with a big crack.

If you are interested, have a look at the interview on “Apfelfunk am Hörer” with Malte Kirchner (DE) and Jean-Claude Frick (CH), where among other things the crack in our iMac is discussed (“Link Interview Apfelfunk einfügen”).

What we are very happy about is that Apple has mentioned Bionic Reading® several times in their Livehacks. It would be awesome if Apple would integrate Bionic Reading® into their app Apple Books”. That would be one of the biggest dreams of Renato Casutt. Especially because he would be able to fulfill a big wish of his community, which asks him for this almost every day.

Conclusion from this story
We love Apple and would love to welcome Tim Cook with Swiss chocolate in the Swiss Alps.

Share this post with family and friends in your social media channels. Tag Bionic Reading® and feel free to comment if you are a big Apple fan too.

Best regards from the Swiss Alps, Renato
